  1. You should not perish but have eternal life. It is clear that perish different from eternal life. Eternal life means you live forever. Why would perish mean something different than dying? If you go to hell and burn forever, and feel the pain, that also means eternal life. I believe perish means death. Just like it said to not fear the one who can kill the body but him who can kill both body and soul. I think that means the soul will be killed.
